Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

MFA adds an extra layer of security when you log into your account. You may be prompted for MFA when accessing any Microsoft 365 applications (like Office 365 or OneDrive) or services that utilize Microsoft for single sign-on (SSO). Once prompted for MFA, you may choose to remember the device or application for 30 days.

Changing or Adding MFA Verification Methods

To modify or add MFA settings, reach out to the Helpdesk at admin2@mmlginc.com. Although you may have configured one method during your initial account setup, it’s advisable to add a backup method to ensure continued access. We recommend combining the Microsoft Authenticator app with receiving a text message.

If your phone number has changed and it was your sole verification method, please contact the Helpdesk to reset your MFA settings.

MFA Verification Methods

Microsoft Authenticator App

Ideal for users traveling outside the United States. Offers two options: Push Notifications (connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data) and Six-Digit Code (functions without an internet connection).

Text Message

Receive a six-digit code via text. Simply enter the code when prompted.

Phone Call

You will receive a call and be asked to press a button to verify. Avoid using a landline if you are not in your office.

Security Key

A USB device (like YubiKey) used to sign in. Supports FIDO2 security keys.

Traveling Outside the USA

If your current phone plan supports international use, you can continue with your usual MFA methods. If not, set up an alternative method before traveling, such as the Microsoft Authenticator app.

Classroom and Computer Lab Usage

MFA is required when using any application or site with Microsoft SSO on campus computers, including classrooms and labs. Faculty and students should be prepared with their MFA method when accessing these resources.
